Dot celebrates her birthday in style
ONE very popular woman celebrated a special milestone on the weekend.
Dot Hilton celebrated her 80th birthday at the Warwick East Bowls Club and was joined by more than 50 people, including her two sisters, seven children and friends from golf and other walks of life.
Mrs Hilton has lived in Warwick for 32 years, having lived in different country towns as her husband worked on a variety of properties, before they moved to the Rose City from Karara.
"It's a big milestone," Mrs Hilton said.
"It means a bit to get there.
"It's a big turnout so I'm really pleased that everyone has come and joined me in celebrating."
A mixture of all ages were present and Dot joked she could still show the young ones up on the dance floor.
"Unfortunately we haven't got any music for dancing," she said.
"If we did I think I could definitely show the young ones a thing or two on the dance floor. When we lived out on the properties we used to go to a lot of bush dances."
One of Mrs Hilton's daughters, Sue Cook said the turnout showed how popular her mother was.
"There were a lot of friends and family there and many people came from outside of Warwick," Mrs Cook said.
"She has been a great mum for all of us.
"We had a slideshow with pictures of her from her childhood through to now and we also played barefoot bowls in the afternoon.
"I don't want to wish 10 years away but we're all looking forward to her 90th now."
