Double delight as sidecars feature at Morgan Park Raceway

MOTORCYCLE RACING: Dave Boughen and Lok O'Kane will be one of the 10 sidecar teams in action at this weekend's Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland meeting at Morgan Park Raceway.

There are 120 riders registered for the weekend, including 10 teams in the sidecar class.

Boughen, 51, and O'Kane, 31, are regulars at Morgan Park and are the current Australian champions for their class.

They first raced at Morgan Park in 2005 and said their main motivation for racing was "because it's fun”.

There was coaching for motorcycle riders at the track on Thursday and practice and testing on Friday.

Racing will be in full swing Saturday and Sunday. There will be eight classes, including the enduro class, where riders enjoy a Le Mans-style start.

The riders will be standing on one side of the track and once the starting flag drops they will have to run across the track to start their bike and begin the race.

The enduro class is a 30-minute race in which each rider gets the chequered flag when they pass the start after 30 minutes and then finish with a final lap.

One of the riders to watch is long-time Warwick racer Tayla Relph, who has been chosen by Motorcycling Australia to compete in a one-off race in India for the Asia Roadrace Cup.

Admission is free and fans are welcome to walk through the pits and talk to the riders.
