Tim is double dipping

WINNING one campdraft at Warwick on the last weekend in October can be a difficult task, let alone setting your sights on two in the same year.

Kempsey rider Tim McCarthy and Miss Mojo go into round two of the Supafloats Canning Downs Campdraft this morning with a realistic chance to make the finals of the Canning Downs and Warwick Gold Cup campdrafts.

Once in the finals anything can happen, as Muttaburra rider Ben Hall unfortunately discovered two years ago. He won at Condamine and Chinchilla and needed a top ride in the final of the Warwick Gold Cup to claim the virtually impossible treble.

Despite fields of almost 700, only a handful of campdrafters score above 90 so McCarthy is a chance for the double as his scores in the separate campdrafts on Miss Mojo are 91 and 90.

Round 2 of the Canning Downs Campdraft starts at 7am today.

McCarthy will have to wait until Sunday, from 5am, to contest round two of the Black Toyota Warwick Gold Cup on the same horse.

This afternoon, the first round of the Warwick Champion of Champions Campdraft will be held. Southern Downs riders among a field of 50 include Ian Glasby on Hope, Michael Boyce riding Gemma’s Gift and Sarah Gordon on Banshee Eureka.

Favourites in a Who’s Who of Australian campdrafting include Ben Hall on Reliable, his father Terry Hall riding Hazelwood Conman, Nigel Kable on Chevin Ivory, Mark Buttsworth and Realistic and Steve Comiskey riding Blenheim Atmosphere.

The Warwick Champion of Champions final starts at 5.30pm, after the final of the CG Welding Ladies’ Silver Cup Campdraft, which starts at 4.30pm today. Rodeo action, both the rough and timed events, starts at 6.30pm and includes round three of the Junior National Finals Rodeo in the APRA.

Round one of the Frasers Livestock Transport Stallion Campdraft starts at 6am tomorrow.
