Downs rep brigade does school proud

SIX Warwick West State School students made Darling Downs teams in the first half of the 2014 year and school officials hope for more this term.

Principal Jason Callcott said it was particularly impressive that three students had represented Darling Downs this year and had now represented the region in two sports.

"It was an outstanding effort, all six who have made Darling Downs teams so far this year are very self-motivated," he said.

Jacob Gross represented Darling Downs in cricket where he made a best of 30 with the bat and kept wickets.

Last term, he and Alex Donn from Warwick West played for the 12-years regional rugby league team which was fourth in the state championships. Jacob played second row and Alex was prop. Both were in the Darling Downs schools 11-years team last year.

Bryana McGowan scored three goals as a striker for Darling Downs as the region came third in the Queensland Primary School Hockey Championships at Colmslio in Brisbane.

She made the Darling Downs athletics team last year and is hoping to make it two years in succession this term.

Jaiden Fidge and Will Davis will represent Darling Downs in orienteering in Maryborough.

It will be the first state championships for Will while Jaiden played regional Aussie rules last year.

This year, Oscar Evans was part of the Darling Downs primary school Aussie rules team which played state championships in Townsville.
