Entries promising for Stanthorpe Campdraft
ATTENTION keen campdrafters: You still have time to nominate for the Stanthorpe Campdraft, which kicks off this weekend at Stanthorpe Showgrounds.
The two-day campdraft, which starts at 7am Saturday, includes juvenile, junior, maiden, encourage, novice and open events.
Organiser Paula Boatfield said nominations for all classes would be accepted until Friday.
"We were forced to postpone the draft from March until now because it was so wet in the aftermath of Cyclone Oswald," she explained.
"At the time we couldn't get cattle into the showgrounds and were concerned about the risks of running on such a wet ground.
"But we are really encouraged by the support we have received since from both sponsors and competitors."
More than 700 cattle from properties across the Granite Belt will be trucked in for the event.
"A lot of our region has had a good season so stock from both the eastern and western sides of Stanthorpe will be in good condition, which is what you need for a draft," Mrs Boatfield said.
At the moment there are still spaces in all events but keen competitors are urged to send in their nominations as soon as possible to secure their places.
She said several new sponsors had come on board for the 2013 event and the committee was grateful for their involvement, as well as that of long standing supporters.
"We get exceptional support from the Granite Belt community and that is vital."
Huge apologies from the Bush Tele team for the error with dates in last Tuesday's preview.
