Drag racer has perfect reaction time in Mopar
DRAG RACING: Ripley driver Peter Johnson was the overall winner as 45 drivers headed to Warwick for the eighth annual Mopar Muscle Weekend.
Johnson drives a VG Valiant Hardtop and is a regular at the Mopar Muscle Weekend.
He won the final from Doug Knowles, of Brisbane, in an AP6 Valiant.
"I competed at the first Mopar Muscle Weekend and haven't missed one but this is my first grand championship win,” Johnson said.
"It was amazing to win.”
The weekend started when 30 cars were on display for two hours on Saturday at Leslie Park.
Organiser Darryl Elliott from the Queensland Chrysler Association said the introduction of the new street grudge bracket on Saturday afternoon added to the excitement.
"While the overall numbers were down, the racing was even more exciting and everyone had a good time,” he said.
The powder puff final was between two women in Valiant Chargers. Karen Rasmussen came to Warwick in her red Charger on Sunday and won.
BJ Anderson competed in a Chrysler Cl customised panel van and had a couple of runs on Saturday before putting in a limited slip diff on Saturday night to win his bracket on Sunday.
