Cars coming our way on dragweek Cruise

KRISTIAN Goleby expects more than 40 drag racing drivers to be in Warwick today for the first Dragweek visit.

Goleby lives in Toowoomba and is the instigator of Dragweek and a major sponsor through his business Goleby's Parts.

"The idea of Dragweek is to promote the sport, safety on the roads and racing on the track," he said.

More than 40 drivers will leave Toowoomba at 12.30pm today and be at Warwick Dragway at 1.45pm.

Gates open at 2pm with racing at 6-9pm.

Goleby said the drivers would prepare their cars for racing during the afternoon.

"The drivers will leave Warwick at 10am Saturday for an afternoon of racing at Willowbank," he said.

"This is an event with a difference, there is a similar event in America."

There will be another Dragweek Drive in winter including Palmyra (Mackay), Benaraby (Gladstone) and Willowbank dragways.

"The plan is for one short and one long drive each year," he said.

"Drag racing in Toowoomba will be included in Dragweek in the future if a drag strip is built in the Wellcamp area."

Admission tonight is $10 adults, kids under 13 free.
