Dragfest trailblazer and she is from Warwick
DRAG RACING: The youngest girl to race a drag bike in Australia will be in action at the JP Racing Dragfest at Warwick Dragway this weekend.
Rachel Holyoak, 16, of Warwick, has competed three times since turning 16 in August.
Keith Suridge is a race official at the Warwick Dragway and asked Rachel at one meeting why she wasn't racing.
"He said under the new rules I could race,” Rachel said.
"I have a best of 10 seconds flat for the one-eighth mile (200m) strip and am aiming to get in the nine seconds range this weekend.”
She will race a Kawasaki XXR250 in the drag racing class and her father, Damien, will be on a Suzuki GSXR1000 in street bike.
Suridge said there was no doubt Rachel would be the youngest girl in Australia to race a drag bike in an official competition.
"Children can go in junior dragster at age eight but have to wait to 16 to race bikes. The Warwick club is affiliated with Racer World, which has made it possible for Rachel to compete.”
Rachel has every chance to win, as the contest in her class will be about being closest to dial in time.
She has already perfected the start.
"I have a best reaction time of .001 which was close to a red light,” she said.
She is yet to be red- lighted, which happens when a driver or rider is quicker than the allowed reaction time.
Damien, who has raced bikes for 25 years, is happy with his consistency with a best pass of 6.62 seconds.
Action from 10am Saturday and Sunday. The nitro funny car is expected to reach 400kmh in 5pm and 7pm appearances on Saturday.
