Dramatic fireball as hot-air balloon hits power lines

TWO bodies have been found after a hot air balloon hit a power line and caught fire over Virginia during a festival, police said on Saturday.

The search is continuing for a third person who was on board the balloon when the tragedy, which occurred during the Mid-Atlantic Balloon Festival, unfolded.

Witnesses described hearing cries for help as the balloon was engulfed in flames, in an area 48km north of Richmond. They then saw two people jumping or falling from the gondola.

"It was pretty horrifying," a festival-goer, Megan Pattie, who saw the accident, told ABC News.

Witnesses posted photos online showing a balloon in mid-air with its basket engulfed in flames and a trail of smoke spilling into the sky.
