Drink driving offences down over Christmas/New Year

POLICE have reported only four drink drivers were intercepted during the period from December 24 to January 3.

The first was a 39-year-old Stanthorpe p-plater who returned a .025 reading on Christmas Eve.

About an hour later, police intercepted a 39-year-old man on the Cunningham Hwy who allegedly had a blood-alcohol concentration of .075.

A 23-year-old man from Garbutt near Townsville was intercepted on December 26 on Victoria St.

Police say he returned a reading of .057 at 1.26pm.

A 26-year-old man was intercepted by police on January 1 at 2am on Pratten St with an alleged BAC of .058.

Snr Sgt Deacon said nine drivers returned positive road-side drug tests over the period.

The samples have been sent away for further testing with charges yet to be laid.
