Drive-through food outlet, offices approved for CBD

WARWICK could soon be home to a new drive-through food outlet, with development approved for a prime CBD block.

A development on the land on the corner of Albion and Fitzroy Sts has been approved by the Southern Downs Regional Council.

The development includes a drive-through food outlet and a block of offices.

The office block will have room for six businesses, including health services.

At this stage it's not clear which businesses would occupy the site.

Director of Planning, Environment and Community Services Ken Harris said the block would be split into two lots for the two buildings.

"The food and drink outlet is proposed to be located on the lot that will be on the corner of Albion and Fitzroy St," he said.

"The building on the allotment with frontage to Albion St will be for professional offices."

The development is subject to 33 conditions, imposed by the council and Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.

One of the conditions is that the site will not be filled, like the adjacent Subway building.

Both buildings will be required to be built 300mm above flood level.

The council-owned block of land has been under contract for several months after it was placed on the market last year.

Council's Manager of Corporate Services Peter Gribbin said the development approval was one of the conditions required before the contract could be settled in June.

"Council is not in a position to disclose details of the sale price," he said.

"Funds arising from the sale will be used to ensure a better financial outcome for council."

The council bought the block from Telstra in 2005 for $275,000.

The Daily News has attempted to contact developer John Kearney for comment.
