Several children involved in head-on smash near Warwick
UPDATE: Warwick police say a head-on collision near Cunningham's Gap this morning could have been so much worse.
Sergeant Lisa Self said both cars involved in the smash had children inside.
"The really concering thing is there were children in the cars," she said.
"In total there were three small children involved."
None of the children were injured in the crash.
The two cars collided head-on near Bestbrook Mountrain Resort at 5am.
The Cunningham Hwy has been closed since.
Sgt Self said a number of people were trapped in the cars when police arrived on scene.
"It definitely could have been much worse - there was a lot of damage to the cars," she said.
"A number of people were trapped for a short time."
The highway should re-open at around 8am.
Police investigations into the cause of the crash are on-going.
EARLIER: TWO people have been injured in a head-on crash near Cunningham's Gap.
The Cunningham Highway has been closed at Bestbrook Mountain Resort since 5am.
One of the drivers involved in the crash had to be airlifted to Brisbane with multiple broken bones.
The other driver was taken to Warwick Hospital with a broken ankle.
The highway is expected to re-open at around 8am.
