Driver of car involved in fatal accident arrested, charged

BREAKING: THE driver of a car involved in an accident south of Stanthorpe on Tuesday which resulted in a fatality has been arrested and charged by the Stanthorpe Police.

The accident took place at Glen Aplin on Tuesday afternoon when a station wagon with four French backpackers collided with an Ergon Energy truck.

All four men were thrown from the vehicle and one lost his life, while two more were seriously injured and were choppered out to hospitals in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

The driver was taken to Stanthorpe Hospital for observation and was arrested by police yesterday afternoon and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He was taken to the Warwick watch house where he remained overnight and was released on bail this morning.

The 25 year old French national is due to appear in the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on January 29.

Police charged him via an interpreter.
