Driver freed after crash

POLICE attended a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Fitzroy St and Dragon St earlier today.

Just after 11am, emergency services were called to the intersection where two cars had collided.

Police said initial investigations indicated that the elderly male driver of one of the vehicles involved had failed to give way while driving on Fitzroy St resulting in the collision.

The elderly driver was trapped inside his vehicle when the second car travelling on Dragon St collided with his driver side door.

Fire and rescue services and paramedics worked quickly to free the man from the vehicle, using the jaws of life to break apart the door and release the man before he was transported by ambulance to Warwick Hospital.

The man sustained serious injury to his leg and possible hip injury but was otherwise stable.

Both cars were extensively damaged and both were towed from the site of the collision.

The man and woman in the second vehicle were not injured.

Police said investigations into the crash will continue.
