Driver into karting with no need for major investment
MOTOR RACING: Want to get into motorsport - well $2500 will get you started in karting.
That is the word from Warwick Karting Club member Kevin Davies who will be back at the Sandy Creek Raceway for the final club meeting of the year on Saturday, December 12.
He comes from Ormeau, on the other side of the Great Dividing Range, and has been a regular at the club in recent years.
"I have been taking photos and decided to have a go at racing," he said.
Davies bought a kart for $2500 and is tickled pink to be mixing it with more seasoned competitors at Sandy Creek.
"I dropped two seconds off my time in one day and have only just started," he said.
He bought a second-hand covered trailer to transport the kart for $1500 from a fellow racer.
At age 50, he said now was the right time to have some fun kart racing.
"I just want to stay on the track," he said.
Club days are held most months at Sandy Creek and the December 12 meeting will be the last for the year.
Pro tour on
THE Warwick Karting Club has secured the rights to host a pro tour round on February 27-28.
Club president Peter Lane said he was excited that the club had also been approached to apply to host a round of the Australian Kart Championships in the middle of next year.
In recent years, the club has hosted a national round in karting most years but next year there is the possibility of two, which is great news for the Warwick economy.
