Driver of stolen ute involved in Granite Belt chase arrested

A DRIVER who allegedly evaded police at Ballandean, Stanthorpe and Braeside in a stolen LandCruiser on Wednesday has been apprehended at the Noccundra Hotel in western Queensland.

He was arrested at 10.30pm Saturday by Thargomindah police and is in the Charleville watchhouse.

He is expected to face court in Charleville tomorrow afternoon.

The 21-year-old from Dirranbandi allegedly stole the vehicle with New South Wales number plates from south of the border and drove 570km before being spotted by police on the Granite Belt.

He evaded police in the Stanthorpe area and was believed to have headed west to the Gore area.

The Dirranbandi man faces one charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one charge of driving while disqualified, one charge of failing to stop and one charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
