Driver pays for repairs
THE Southern Downs Regional Council plans to pursue repair costs from a driver who crashed through the railing of Palmer Bridge at Freestone three weeks ago.
A council spokeswoman said the repairs - likely to cost several thousand dollars - would be scheduled "as soon as we can release a gang from other current works".
The incident took place on November 2, when a green Ford Falcon sedan heading towards Warwick crashed through the railing and hit the embankment below.
Warwick Police Senior Sergeant Stewart Day said the 42-year-old male driver from Warwick told police he had swerved to avoid a small dog on the narrow bridge.
Snr Sgt Day said the man had been hospitalised and had not been charged with any driving offence as a result of the crash. He returned a negative alcohol breath test.
