Police bust finds $400k in drugs

CANNABIS plants worth up to $400,000 have been found on a property at Swanfels, police have confirmed.

A spokesman for the Warwick Police Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) said officers executed a search warrant on a property on Judges Rd on Friday morning, finding a total of 40 cannabis plants at various stages of growth.

He said plants ranging from 80 centimetres up to 1.75 metres in height were located, along with a quantity of seedlings, with a single mature cannabis plant currently worth about $10,000 on the illicit drug market.

“Police also located a drying shed and various items of equipment associated with cannabis production, along with a firearm,” the spokesman said.

“No one has been arrested and charged with drug offences at this point and investigations are continuing.”

In other local crime news, police have re-issued their recent warnings to vehicle owners to ensure their cars are secure when not on the road.

After a spate of vehicle thefts in recent weeks and months, the CIB spokesman said a late-model vehicle left unlocked in Warwick in the past few days had been targeted by opportunistic thieves.

“The 2009 model vehicle was on the street and a Navman unit was removed,” the spokesman said.

“We just urge people to take what is only a few moments of their time to ensure their vehicles are locked if left out on the street, or outside of a secure garage or shed.

“It’s unfortunate but it is simply not safe anymore to leave cars unlocked.”

The spokesman said police were also investigating the theft of several quad bikes from local farms.

“Again, these have been instances where keys were left in the ignition, making it easy for the opportunistic thief.”
