Drug driving charges laid after Border operation

THREE men were charged with driving under the influence of an illegal drug in a traffic operation at Wallangarra last week.

Sergeant Alan Baker, of Wallangarra police, said the operation was on the New England Highway on Tuesday targeting north and south-bound traffic.

One of the drivers was from Brisbane, one from Sunshine Coast and one for Wallangarra and there were all heading north when intercepted.

A quantity of cannabis and a drug utensil was found in a separate vehicle and the 18-year-old driver from Toowoomba was put on a drug diversion program.

Wallangarra police in conjunction with Stanthorpe general duties police and the Stanthorpe Road Policing Unit as well as Tenterfield Police random breath tested 320 drivers and there were no positive tests.

Forty-one heavy vehicles were pulled over for compliance tests and log book inspections and all log books were of a satisfactory standard.

Five traffic infringement notices were issued, three for speeding, one for crossing double lines and one for a defective vehicle.
