Drunk and disorderlies on rise in Warwick

VANDALISM and public nuisance offences have been causing a stir across the region this week.

A number of charges and notices have been issued in both Warwick and Stanthorpe.

Police have arrested two German backpackers in relation to a string of vandalism offences in the main street of Stanthorpe on Saturday night.

Arrests were made after Police observed one of the vandals committing an offence in the Piazza.

The two men, aged 18 have been charged with nine graffiti offences, contravening a move-on notice and one count of public urination.

The men have been bailed to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on April 22 and have surrendered their passports.

Other bail conditions include that they are not to consume alcohol and must report to police once a week until the trial.

About 13 businesses had their shop fronts sprayed with graffiti on Saturday night including the ANZ ATM, Granite Belt Pharmacy and the Central Hotel.

Officer in Charge of Stanthorpe Police Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the men had been drinking in the town on the night of the alleged crimes.

"They were drunk but that's no excuse for damaging other people's property," he said.

"Once again the CCTV cameras were instrumental in making these arrests, along with great work by police crews.

"We are still awaiting complaints from another six premises and once all businesses come forward the men will face additional charges."

In Warwick, four notices to appear were issued to three men and one woman, all in their early 20s, for disorderly behaviour in the driveway at a service station in Wallace St.

Several public nuisance notices have also been issued, including one for fighting in the street and another for an offender attempting to fight police.
