Dual league success at State High

WARWICK State High School won the overall under-13 and under-15 competitions at the Girls Rugby League Gala Day at Herb Steinohrt Oval in Toowoomba.

The two winning sides were coached by Tanya Wright.

The trophy won by the school was presented to acting principal David Ferguson in front of the entire school population.

The gala day was contested by teams from Concordia College, Harristown, Toowoomba, Pittsworth, Lockyer and Warwick state high schools.

The Warwick open girls were coached by Mark Fowler and just missed out on the final.

Warwick High outstanding players were Zana Connall (U13), Leanne Brown and Cassie Connall (U15) and the best-and-fairest player in the open team was Karen Kay.

Wright said usually rugby league was a male-dominated sport and it was nice to see the girls step up and give it a red-hot go.

“The girls wore the Warwick High School jersey with pride and their overall performance was excellent,” Wright said.

“They conducted themselves in the true manner and spirit of the school.”
