Ducks on the pond – all 400 of them
AS HAS become the tradition, Allora will again host the annual Dalrymple Duck Race on the Australia Day weekend.
The events always attracts generous crowds, who either buy their own yellow racing duck or cheer on someone else's.
For the 16th year of the event, the race will again be held at Allora Swimming Pool on Monday January 27.
It will feature two races, cash prizes and 400 ducks, available for $2 on the day.
Racing begins at 3pm (with the help of some commercial-grade electric fans) and the ducks race 50 metres to the finish line.
The popular event was first organised by Ted Cowley for the Allora Show Society, in 1998 to raise money for the Society's Princess entrants.
It has since been ranked alongside events such as Stockbridge Duck Race in Edinburgh, Scotland and the annual Freestore Foodbank Rubber Duck Regatta in Cincinnati.
Racing ducks will be available at the Allora Pharmacy leading up to race day.
