Duo cooks up show support

IT IS a family affair down at the showgrounds where a mother-daughter duo have made setting up the cookery and preserves section an annual event.

Vivian Bond has been steward of the pavilion category for six years and Andrea has been helping her since the beginning.

Vivian said she did not intentionally end up with the job but she enjoys it none-the-less.

"At the time I was an exhibiter in the section and no-one else had put their hand up for roll so I simply volunteered," she said.

"When I started stewarding for cookery and preserves I was also the steward for the horticulture section because both were smaller back then but have now grown and become too big for just one person.

"This is something that I really enjoy doing though.

"Once you get in you become hooked and addicted."

Andrea said her entries and involvement come from her passion for cooking.

"I have been entering since I was six," she said.

"I have always liked to cook for others and everyone at work enjoys the outcomes," she said.

"I do one massive cook-up a year to get it all out of my system."

"It has become a bit of a family affair but we are happy to help the community and the show," said Vivian.

"My other daughter and granddaughter were here last night helping to set up as well."

This year the cookery and preserves section has over 200 entries across all cake, jam, preserve and children's' categories.
