Duo delights in fun of science
SCIENCE has forever been flagged as a nerdy subject where lisps, frizzled hair and inch-thick glasses are the first thing that pops to mind.
But Dr Andrew Stephenson and Glen Harris from the University of Queensland are touring the state to blow that stereotype right out of the Petrie dish.
As part of science outreach, the pair headed west last week to Cunnamulla, St George, Goondiwindi and here to Warwick to show school kids that science can be fun.
"We visit schools and get excited about it and it creates a desire to learn more," Dr Stephenson said.
Dr Stephenson has been travelling around the state since 2007, with Mr Harris recently jumping on board to learn the ropes.
Scots PGC head of science Nigel Sullivan said it was a great workshop for students to attend to change their views on science.
"It's tremendous they're here, especially in the country. City students have access to this sort of thing all the time so it's great they've come out here," Mr Sullivan said.
"The students love it. The junior secondary kids all walked out buzzing,"
