Duo in blue joins city’s crime fighters

FRESH out of the academy and eager to begin their careers of chasing bad guys are Warwick's latest police recruits, constables Werner Van Der Walt and Daniel La Rue.

Hailing from Armidale and Brisbane respectively, Van Der Walt and La Rue will now call the Rose City home for the next 12 months.

Const Van Der Walt - who has dreams of one day joining the dog squad - has policing in his blood, with a great-grandfather who once wore a badge.

He said he was enjoying his first few weeks on the job and had already begun to meet Rose City residents.

"One of the other drawcards of the job is there is so much variety and every day is different," he said.

"I just want to learn as much as I can while I am here and get to know the people in the community."

Const La Rue has his mind set on either a career in the dog squad or the water police.

"I just love being on the water and I have my own boat," he said.

"It was an awesome feeling to graduate and I am excited to start my new career here."
