Duterte vows to throw the corrupt from chopper
PHILIPPINES President Rodrigo Duterte has issued a brutal new threat to his own government officials, saying he will throw them out of a flying helicopter if they are found to be engaging in illegal activity.
He said he had personally carried out the action before and would not hesitate to do it again.
Well known for his brutal war on drugs, he said he once hurled a Chinese man suspected of rape and murder out of a moving helicopter.
"If you are corrupt, I will fetch you using a helicopter to Manila and I will throw you out. I have done this before. Why would I not do it again?” he said during a speech to typhoon victims earlier this week.
He threatened the punish- ment for any government officials found to be stealing the financial aid he was promising, and his words were met with applause.
Mr Duterte later appeared to downplay his remarks.
In an interview with ABS- CBN news he said: "Helicop- ter to throw a person? And if that is true, I will not admit it.”
It certainly isn't the first time he has made outrageous public claims about his violent history.
Earlier this month, he told the BBC he shot dead three criminal suspects while he was the mayor of Davao.
"I killed about three of them,” he said. "I don't know how many bullets from my gun went inside their bodies. It happened and I cannot lie about it.”
According to police, almost 6000 people have been killed since Mr Duterte took office in June and launched his war on the drug trade. - NEWS CORP
