Eastwell ropers make the finals and a chance for hometown to back them all weekend
RODEO: After taking a win in one round on his homeground last year, Mitch Eastwell is hoping to do the same again in the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals this weekend.
Eastwell is competing in his second APRA finals at the Warwick Showgrounds and will be joined by younger brother Brock, who is riding his first pro rodeo finals.
Going into the finals, Mitch is ranked 14th and Brock 15th. Both will need to place in virtually every round to have a chance to win the title as the cowboys higher up in the standings will have more carryover points going into the finals.
Their father Bevin was proud to see two sons in the national finals.
"They have done well to make the national finals and are travelling to more and more APRA rodeos. This year, Mitch and Brock competed in the Northern Run from Taroom to Mt Isa,” Bevin said.
"The boys have been low key in the run-up to the finals but are pretty excited.”
Their older brother Wade also competes and will be supporting his brothers this weekend.
Mitch will ride Wade's horse LJ while Brock will be on his own horse.
The brothers have qualified in the rope and tie but also compete in steer wrestling and team roping.
They are part of a group of eight from Warwick competing in the national finals.
Michael Maher and Lane Grayson are both in the saddle bronc after competing in the event over the years in the US and across Australia.
Jeff and Kobe Miller are in team roping with Ryan Zadow and Fred Osman in the bareback.
Round 2 at 6pm Friday, round 3 at 6pm Saturday and round 4 at 2pm Sunday. The first round was on Thursday night.
