Easy win for Gremlins

NATHAN Shatte and Matthew Hendry scored two tries each as premiers Stanthorpe defeated Texas 50-4 in Border Rugby League A grade at Sullivan Oval on Saturday.

Pat Toohey, Andrew Thorne, Brad Crisp, Leon Karena and Luke Schnitzerling each scored a try and Jason Wilmot landed seven goals.

Matt Young scored the Texas try.

Referee’s points for best players went to Wilmot (3), Andrew Thompson (Texas, 2) and Toohey (1).

Matthew Hendry won the Gremlins’ players’ player award after moving from hooker to lock following the withdrawal of Matt Rouen due to family commitments.

Stanthorpe manager Peter Shatte said it was one of his side’s best performances of the year.

“We got the bad performance against Tenterfield two weeks ago out of our system on Saturday.”

Dave Williams was strong in the second row for Texas and kept going for the full 80 minutes.

Texas captain-coach Jason Edmondstone suffered a knee injury in the Central division carnival on the May long weekend and aggravated the injury on Saturday.

Stanthorpe beat Texas 32-4 in reserve grade.

In the game at Tigers Park at Tenterfield, Inglewood won 38-32 against Tenterfield in a shock result in A grade.

Killarney travel to Tenterfield on Saturday and are likely to face a determined Tigers outfit.
