Eaves does Warwick proud on the big stage

GOLF: The final two rounds were a battle for Warwick's Sam Eaves, but the fight he showed to make the cut of the $1.5m Australian PGA Championship should not be forgotten.

Eaves earned a spot during the final two rounds of the tournament after scoring 72 and 71 during the first two rounds of play on the Gold Coast.

The Warwick golfer maintained his composure during the opening round, as he parred the course.

The second round was a particularly defining one for Eaves, where he found himself a couple of shots behind the projected cut for parts of the day, before storming home in a strong back nine to ensure his place on the weekend.

Eaves made the cut ahead of names such as Adam Scott, Nick O'Hern, Craig Parry, Brett Rumford, Marcus Fraser and Robert Allenby, and picked up a handy $2100 of prizemoney in the process.

The aptly-named Cameron Smith won the PGA Championship in a playoff from Jordan Zunic.
