Eden Gardens memorial statue just in time for Anzac Day
AN Anzac Day service has been held at Eden Gardens for as long as Eddie Marshall can remember - but this year will be the first with an official memorial statue.
Mr Marshall, who is the Veterans Support and Advocacy Service Association president, started working on the project 12 months ago.
"The gardens were founded by army veteran Gordon Shaddock (who is now deceased) and his family," Mr Marshall said.
"The memorial statue is in memory of all fallen veterans, I just thought that the garden here needed something."
A Saluting the Fallen grant through Veterans Affairs made it possible for the statue to go ahead.
Mr Marshall said VSASA picked up the shortfall and also provided in kind support for transport and the installation of the statue.
He said he was incredibly happy with the end result and pleased it was ready for Anzac Day.
The statue will be officially unveiled during the Eden Gardens Anzac Day service at 9.30am on Saturday.
Gordon's daughter Margaret Hornsey will be attending the service and unveiling the statue.
