Effort to ease 'chaos'
CHAOTIC scenes outside Warwick West State School at 3pm could be a thing of the past, if the council approves a police proposal to have Hudson St made a one-way street.
Pick-up times in the street are often hectic, with motorists struggling to pass through two lanes of parked cars and traffic flowing in the other direction.
Terri Barr, who runs a hair salon from her Hudson St property, said she thought a one-way street was a good idea.
"Someone is going to get killed, run over or have an accident there if nothing changes," she said. "If it is a matter of safety, then I don't have a problem with it being made a one-way street."
Mrs Barr said she avoided leaving her home at school pick-up and drop-off times.
She said these times were "dangerous" and she was often unable to get out of her driveway due to the congestion and number of parked cars.
Warwick traffic branch officer in charge Ross Waugh said police made an application to have the road changed 12 months ago but had not heard anything since.
Sgt Waugh said police would like to see changes which would allow traffic to flow in only one direction, with cars parked on only one side of the road.
The Daily News contacted the council yesterday to obtain an update on the application, however a response had not not received by time of printing.
