Eighteen winners at drags despite weather
DRAG RACING: Warwick drag racer Glen Loy was fastest qualifier in the fast street class in round 2 of JP Racing Dragfest at Warwick Dragway on Saturday.
Late Saturday afternoon, the rain started blowing in and no further racing was possible.
Christine Steffens was fastest qualifier in outlaws as each competitor had three runs.
Steffens hails from the Lockyer Valley and had the fastest pass in outlaws and fastest overall with a time of 4.4 seconds. She was clocked at 257kmp (160mph) over the 200m (1/8 mile) dragway.
There were 200 nominations. Rain started mid-afternoon Saturday to end qualifying and racing for the day so the barbecue and entertainment started a little earlier than expected.
Rain stopped the nitro funny car from racing but it was started twice to provide some entertainment.
Warwick Drag Racing Association vice-president John Loy said the attendance on the Saturday was the best to a Dragfest to date.
