Elderly man charged with sexual assault, assaulting police

A 75-YEAR-old Stanthorpe man has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting an elderly woman.

The man was arrested yesterday afternoon, accused of the sexual assault of a 73-year-old woman last week.

Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the man became aggressive with police during his arrest.

"The arrest stemmed from a complaint received about an alleged assault on February 11, reported the following day," he said.

"Police attended the offender's address yesterday afternoon where they located the male person in an intoxicated state.

"He became hostile and endeavoured to assault police."

The man will appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on charges of sexual assault and police assault.
