Election will be on rodeo Saturday after move to four years

SEEMS sports with a regional focus don’t count as much as big time sports.

I stumbled on a story that the date of the first State Election under the new four-year fixed terms was designed to keep away from school holidays and major sporting events.

Unfortunately, the most famous rodeo in Australia in Warwick didn’t rate as a major sporting event so the first of the fixed-term elections in about 2021/22 will be on the Saturday of the Warwick Rodeo.

Should be a bit of a nightmare for election officials with thousands of visitors in town wanting to vote.

Perhaps we will have a few candidates walking around the showgrounds to remind voters it is time to go to the ballot box.

What about an election station at the showgrounds, perhaps the Douglas Feez Pavilion or the old bar could be good polling booths. Suspect a lot of political stories were told at the old bar.

And let’s not forget all the visitors down town at the markets.

Good luck Lane

WARWICK cowboy Lane Grayson is in America following a rodeo dream.

The Swanfels rider won the saddle bronc at two rodeos last weekend before heading across the ocean.

Cowboys never worry about an injury before an overseas flight, they just make sure they ride time.

He will be home for the APRA finals in October to compete in saddle bronc.
