Emma is our 2015 Showgirl
A STRONG family involvement with country shows for decades has seen Emma Boughen crowned as the 2015 Miss Warwick Showgirl at the Winter Wonderland Show Ball on Saturday evening.
From a young age Emma assisted her father showing stud cattle, and at the age of 16 became a stud cattle steward at the Marburg and Rosewood Shows.
She said she loved country shows and the important part they play in agricultural communities and was no stranger to the showgirl scene.
"I was Miss Rosewood Showgirl in 2012 and
Rosewood Rural Ambassador in 2014," she said. "I am now happy to have the opportunity to promote the Warwick Show and intend to keep the show relevant throughout the whole year, beyond just the show weekend."
The Daily News reporter moved to the region at the beginning of 2014 to start her writing career.
"I am looking forward to representing Warwick in the Miss Darling Downs Showgirl Quest on Saturday, March 19, where the winner will go on to compete at the Brisbane Ekka for the title of Miss Queensland Showgirl," she said.
"Then the following weekend I will be busy presenting awards and making sure everyone is having a great time at the Warwick Show.
"For the rest of the year I look forward to promoting the show in general conversation and meeting lots of new people."
The new showgirl congratulated runner-up Katelyn Byrne, fundraiser Abbey Seidel and junior showgirl Emily Bradfield, along with all the other entrants on the fantastic job they did and hopes they will be alongside her at the Warwick Show to help out.
Miss Warwick Showgirl co-ordinator Angela Hamilton said this year saw the most entrants the showgirl quest had seen for a long time, with seven in the open category and three in the junior section.
The number of entrants contributed to a fundraising total of $12,000 and the most populated ball for years with more than 200 in attendance.
"I would like to thank all the girls who participated, for their fundraising efforts, and their wonderful presentation at the ball," she said.
