Endeavour celebrates 50 years of support in Warwick
EVERYONE can use a bit of extra support at times, and next Friday Warwick Endeavour Support Group will celebrate 50 years of support in the Rose City.
Janet Davis has spent about 23 years as the group's secretary, lending a helping hand to the non-profit Endeavour Foundation which supports and educates people living with a disability.
Her own son has been at Endeavour and she said the event was aimed at thanking the people and businesses in the community who have supported the support group.
"Most of us are volunteers, and the support group is basically made up of parents who are interested and want to help," Mrs Davis said.
"Without the support of the community we just wouldn't be able to function like we are now."
Initially known as the Queensland Sub-normal Children's Welfare Association Warwick sub-branch, Warwick Endeavour Support Group held their first meeting at the Town Hall on June 22, 1965.
Next week, the support group will host a celebratory morning tea at the Senior Citizens Centre for their 50th anniversary.
The celebrations are to thank both the community and volunteers for their efforts.
"Over the years much campaigning and community support and many fundraising efforts have led to the establishment of a business service, residential facilities and recently a learning and lifestyle centre," Mrs Davis said.
"The morning tea is for those community members and businesses who have given their support to the Endeavour Support Group."
