Enterprising Warwick 10-year-old starts own business
IT'S taken a year of experimentation to get her recipe just right but now Lily Bennet can call herself the proud owner of a small business.
The Warwick 10-year-old is the proud owner of Crazy About Slime, a business dedicated to gooey, colourful goodness.
Lily set the goal a year ago to start her own slime shop after a school friend brought in some slime for show and tell, but creating great slime wasn't as easy as she thought.
She tried countless recipes she found online, but they were either too runny or too sticky.
Eventually she came up with her own unique concoction and the consistency was just right.
Lily said the secret ingredients were glue, shaving cream, lotion, shampoo and laundry detergent.
Bright paint is used to colour the slime into different types, including a multi-coloured candy cane variety and some filled with glitter.
"It's really relaxing playing with it,” she said.
Lily held her first stall at the Warwick Uber Markets today and managed to earn a staggering $300.
Despite her age, she doesn't think she's too young to be venturing into the business world.
"You can get your own pocket money and spend it on things,” she said.
Lily's mother Stacey said starting her own business was a good life lesson for Lily.
"Learning to work with money and build a business, she does all her own shopping and works out the best deals,” Mrs Bennet said.
Last night, Lily opened up to her mum and said she never thought she would actually be the owner of her own shop.
"But I said to her, that's what happens. You start with a dream and then you make it happen,” Mrs Bennet said.
Lily has already started expanding her business, teaching children at a daycare centre in Killarney how to make the slime as well as her own friends.
But slime birthday parties is the next big goal she'd like to achieve.
