Entries soar for art show

A RECORD number of entries have been received by Contrasts Art Show, the new face of the Warwick Show's art competition.

More than 200 works will be displayed over the show weekend, exceeding the previous year's 80 entries.

Organisers predict the $1500 NAB-sponsored major prize made a huge impact.

"Contrasts is diverse, we wanted to showcase a range of art," volunteer Kris Wood said.

Inspired by the Aspects Art Show in Goondiwindi last year, members from the Warwick artist group and the Warwick Show Society teamed up to organise a similar idea for Warwick.

Entries from a variety of regions including Ipswich and Stanthorpe helped to contribute to the 19-category show.

Contrasts Art Show opens with an Arabian Nights-themed cocktail party, 6.30 on March 15. The $18 tickets can be brought from the renovated gallery in the showgrounds during the week.
