Excellent expo lures the crowd

ST MARY'S Hall is presently filled with all sorts of plants, flowers, artwork and food for the Warwick horticultural society's Winter Gardening Extravaganza.

The two-day event has brought together greenthumbs from all over and is keeping Warwick Horticultural Society secretary Margot Cory and her team of ladies very busy.

The team has been providing tea, coffee and snacks for an enthusiastic crowd, which looks set to get bigger with more visitors to be bussed in to Warwick early this morning.

Gale and Dave Ward have been running the Baringa Nursery stall and said the crowd had been fantastic.

"It's been a great kick-off," Gale said. "We have been very busy so far, we had a big group from the Nambour Garden Club here this morning." The pair will run the stall at the markets on Sunday as well.

Brent MacDonald from the Southern Downs Garden Centre had a huge range of plants for sale but said the seedlings were the best sellers so far.

"We bring the seedlings up here in Warwick, which means they are all ready to grow in this climate. It makes it ten times easier to grow when they are already acclimatised," he said.

Brent said the challenge was to provide as much variety as possible for everyone so they could explore their options.

Tenielle Cronk recently moved from Toowoomba to Warwick and said she was impressed by the community feel amongst the gardeners. "It's great that it can bring everyone together," Teniel said.
