Exciting new events in store at the 2014 show
OFF the back of the rodeo success, the Show Society has been working hard to put together what's looking to be one of our biggest shows yet.
Show chairman Pat Flynn said they are looking to "get back to basics" at the 2014 show.
"We want to provide a low-cost family weekend," Mr Flynn said.
"We are thinking old-fashioned sports in the afternoon like the egg and spoon races.
"Friday will be people's day and a real focus on children."
Mr Flynn said a new event called the Farmer Challenge is sure to draw a crowd.
"There will be four people in a team," he said.
"And they will compete against other teams in events like hay stacking and rolling up tarpaulins.
"Just general activities that you might do on a farm."
Mr Flynn said they are still working on ideas for the Saturday program but would like to have Sunday as a heritage day.
"We'll have markets and engines and it will be a very big heavy horse day," he said.
"There will be horse-drawn carriages and possibly a parade."
While the show is still a few months away Mr Flynn said it's all coming together nicely.
"The society has been working very hard this year," he said.
"We've got Big W back on board as a sponsor for some of Friday's program which is great."
Plans have already been put into motion for the 2016 show.
"Once every four years the show falls a week after Easter and in the middle of the school holidays," he said.
"It also ends up three days out from the Toowoomba and Sydney shows.
"We've requested a date change for 2016 so the show will be well before Easter and we can get as many people here as possible."
Mr Flynn said exciting times lay ahead for the society and they are always open to suggestions for improvement.
