Exhibition focuses on history

AS WELL as checking out the cars at the weekend, visitors could also get a glimpse of what Leyburn was like as a town throughout history, thanks to the interesting and informative historical displays available at the Sprints.

In the CWA Hall, the Clifton Photographers set up an exhibition showcasing the old buildings around the township as well as the surrounding countryside.

Members of the historical society were also on hand to enthral guests with tales, in a tent set up with banners and brochures.

Clifton photographer Dave Wellings said the history of Leyburn was fascinating.

"Leyburn used to be on the main run for the stage coaches on their way to Drayton in Toowoomba," he said.

"The men would go over to the pub to have a drink, and of course it wasn't proper for the ladies to go, so they went to their own little coffee house which stands just across the road here."

The photo exhibition is now on its way to the Clifton Library, where it will be displayed in the gallery.

Phone the library on 4697 4223 for opening hours.
