Exhibition sheds light on Warwick’s art history
FOR decades hundreds of artworks have been stored away at the Warwick Artist’s Group’s Willi St studio.
Now, some of these telling pieces of Warwick’s art history will see the light of the day for the first time in many years.
The Warwick Artist’s Group is dusting of some of its most valuable and historical paintings for a special exhibition this week.
The exhibition will coincide with the Southern Downs Heritage Festival, which begins in Warwick on Friday.
Warwick Artist’s Group president Sue Keong said the collection comprised artworks done by past members and visiting tutors.
“In the past visiting tutors would leave a piece of work as a donation to the artist’s group,” she said.
“This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to look back through the years.
“You can see the different eras, styles and landscapes.”
The exhibition will begin on Sunday, with an official opening at the Willi St studio at 2pm.
From 10am to 4pm daily, art lovers will be able to marvel at the works from days past.
The exhibition is free and will continue until Sunday, April 24.
It will be a busy week for the Warwick Artist’s Group, which will also host an oil painting workshop on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
