Expensive first run for motor racing debutant

A JAMMED throttle resulted in a little panel damage for Brisbane electrician Jason Heck in his debut in motorsport at the weekend.

He has always liked cars but with his business established, he has purchased a Ford V8 formerly used by Briggs Motor Sport for a bit of weekend fun in Warwick.

Heck was one of more than 100 drivers in the first round of the Queensland Motor Racing Championships at Morgan Park Raceway.

He doesn't have a speedo in the car but reckons he went close to 200kmh for a mid-field position in the sports sedan class.

"I had an issue on Friday when the throttle jammed and I hit the wall near the bridge," he said.

"My pit crew, most of Friday night and a bit of Saturday morning, were repairing the car so we could run in my first event."

He estimates his first weekend of racing cost $8000 and plans to be back, depending on how well his electrical business is going.

During the week, his electrical business services heavy industries but any electrical experience means nothing under the bonnet of a car.

"There is no relationship between my work and the automotive electrics in the Ford," Heck said.
