Extra time in youngest grand final in Warwick football
FOOTBALL: Liam Vickers scored a goal for Warwick Physioworks three minutes before fulltime to secure a 1-all draw at full-time in the Warwick under-12/U13 football grand final on Saturday.
The score was 0-all at half-time before Maddy Duff goaled to put Condamine Steel up 1-0.
The Vickers goal put the game into extra time.
Physioworks goaled first in extra time after Cooper Seng went for a long goal from a penalty, the shot was stopped and then Jake Scott scored from the rebound.
Seng scored the final goal for a 3-1 win.
During the 10 minutes each way of extra time, Condamine Steel made many attacking raids as they showed the minor premiers they were keen to get their hands on the premiership trophy as well.
There was a large crowd at the game and the players did not disappoint. There weren't too many wanting the game to go into a penalty shootout if the score was still level at the end of extra time.
A feature of the extra time play was the finesse of the Physioworks play from corners.
On three successive occasions, Physioworks striker Jake Scott kicked the ball in for Seng to go for goal with a header.
The first went over the top by 30cm and the other two were good shots which missed but just to create the opportunity and get head to ball said a lot for the work doing at training and the coaching in Warwick junior football.
A presentation was made on the day to almost 500 children who participated in Warwick football this season. Many had fun on the jumping castle set up on the basketball court behind the football clubhouse.
