Families camp out for the Bony Mountain Music Festival

HUNDREDS of campers and caravans united at the weekend, as music fans from across the country gathered for the annual Bony Mountain Music Festival.

The festival showcased local and well-known country music talents and offered plenty of delicious food, from pancakes to burgers.

The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and many campers pulled up their fold out camping chairs around the stage to listen to the music.

Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg officially opened the event on Saturday and said it was a fantastic day.

"It just doesn't matter where you go across the area, there's always so much happening," he said.

"It's got all the stalls here, great food, coffee and great entertainment.

"Everyone is really enjoying themselves and why wouldn't they? It's a great setting here in the bush."

Festival coordinator and Southern Downs Musician Norma O'Hara Murphy is the owner of the acreage the festival sits on.

The event is in its fifth year and Ms O'Hara Murphy said it was getting bigger and better every year.

"I'm just so thrilled with how it's going," she said.

Each year the festival had proven to be a great success, but Ms O'Hara Murphy said she didn't want to overdo it.

"I'm determined to make sure it never gets too big," she said.

"I think it would spoil it if it was to get too big.

"At the moment it's personal and it's intimate."

Most people spent their day sitting under the shade with an ice-cream in hand, listening to the music.

The children spent their time broadening their imagination in a play area known as the Pirate Cave.

Kids enjoyed face painting, dress-ups, balloons and a treasure hunt.
