Family duo wins 50 awards at show

ALWAYS armed with a camera in her hand and a keen eye for the unique, 12-year-old Bubbles Barbierato walked away from this year’s Warwick Show with an enviable bundle of award cards.

When Bubbles sheepishly displayed her 20 awards and sashes, mum Mary could hardly mask her pride.

“She’s done such a wonderful job,” she said.

“I gave her first camera and she always carries it with her.”

The gifted photographer has never received lessons or education in her craft and her portfolio included photos of animals, butterflies, flowers and family.

When thumbing through the list of prize winners, the name “Barbierato” was synonymous with success in both the horticulture and photography categories with Bubbles’ grandmother Barbara taking out prizes in the horticulture section as the duo received almost 50 awards combined.

“This was by far the most successful show competition we’ve ever been in,” Barbara said.

When talking about their success, the Barbieratos said their close Italian family unit was what made them strong when celebrating their triumphs and toiling through hardships.

“I lost my grandfather when I was nine months old,” Bubbles said.
