Family marks 75th anniversary
A MILESTONE like 75 years of marriage doesn’t come around very often.
But Warwick couple Laurie and Nellie Reibelt got to celebrate their anniversary yesterday with family and friends at Akooramak Home for the Aged.
Nellie and Laurie Reibelt wed in Tenterfield on December 31, 1935, but have spent most of their married life in Warwick.
Nellie and Laurie have three children, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Many of the family joined the celebrations, with four generations represented at the morning tea.
Nellie said the key to a long and successful partnership was tolerance.
“It’s give and take and put up with one and other’s faults I think,” she told the Daily News.
Daughter, Mercia Easy, 74, praised her parents’ solid marriage.
“It’s been really good to have such wonderful parents, just the way they have been. We are very fortunate,” she said.
The couple were congratulated for reaching the rare milestone by a number of important public figures, including the Queen, Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Lawrence Springborg and Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott.
