Family open garden to support a good cause
IT ALL began in 1956.
Scott and Margaret Finlay built their family home on working sheep property, just west of Stanthorpe.
"It was quite bare, we started to put in a few plants and the garden just kept growing," Mr Finlay said.
"We only really had a fence to keep some kids in.
"It wasn't until 1967 that we built the tennis court and really began to expand the garden."
For the first and last time the Finlays will open up their garden this weekend in the Open Gardens Australia scheme.
"We've been asked before and we decided to do it to support a charity, but we probably won't do it ever again," Mr Finlay said.
Proceeds from visitors will go to the Kim Walters Choices Program based at Brisbane's Wesley Hospital.
"It's a program close to our heart," Mr Finlay said.
"The program supports women and their families with breast cancer.
"We've unfortunately lost a daughter and daughter-in-law to breast cancer."
The Finlay's garden will be open from 10am - 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Entry is only $7. The property is located about 50 minutes from Warwick.
