Fans line up to meet V8 Supercar driver Russell Ingall
MEN, women and children of all ages lined up for the chance to meet legendary V8 Supercar driver Russell Ingall at Warwick Supercheap Auto yesterday.
With the Armor All Gold Coast 600 marking Ingall's final Queensland-based race, the Holden driver paid a visit to the Rose City to say thanks to the fans who have supported him over his 20-year career.
Ingall said motorsport was a big part of country towns and said that it was great to be able to meet the fans of the sport.
From posters to model cars, Ingall did his fair share of signing.
A couple of people even got the icon to sign the dash of their car.
But Ingall said a dashboard was far from the weirdest thing he had been asked to sign.
"I have signed a lot of flesh," he said.
"But the most recent one was a lady in Townsville who asked me to sign her calf.
"She told me to do it neatly because she was going to get it tattooed on.
"I didn't really believe her.
"But I saw her the next day and sure enough she had it tattooed on her leg."
Signing autographs was not the only thing Ingall got up to while in town.
It was Ingall's job to draw the winner of the double pass to the Armour? Gold Coast 600 and a hot lap around Willowbank Raceway with himself.
And die-hard V8 Supercars fan Chris Brooks was the lucky winner.
"I just brought a new ute and was in here buying some stuff and the staff mentioned the competition and that I would be going in the draw if I brought an Amor?? Armor All product," he said.
Mr Brooks brought one product and did not really expect to win.
"I was back at work putting a dashboard in when I got the call," he said.
"Well, my wife answered it and told me.
"I didn't believe her at first."
Mr Brooks said the prize was "awesome".
"I spend a lot of time racing cars in computer games but to be inside a car with Russell Ingall will be just unreal," he said.
As for who Mr Brooks is taking to the three-day event at the Gold Coast.
"I will have to take the wife," he said.
"She is a fan as well and if I don't take her I think I'd end up divorced."
