Heavens opened and answered farmers' prayers on Christmas

EITHER the heavens have finally responded to the rain dance farmers have been doing all summer or the fat man in red delivered more than just stocking fillers this Christmas with 108mm of the wet stuff falling on Elbow Valley Christmas night.

One farmer who was thrilled to see the rain was Elbow Valley's Andrew O'Dea who got 73mm at his place.

"We were praying for about two inches of rain over Christmas, but three is a bonus," Mr O'Dea said.

Having battled the dry conditions the past few months, Mr O'Dea said they had been praying for a decent shower.

"We're about three months behind and missing out on those early storms didn't help," he said.

"We were getting really tight feed-wise and that gets a bit stressful and makes it pretty hard, but good things come to those who wait."

Mr O'Dea said with a few more drops, the river that has been dry as a bone might just start running again.

"There are a few waterholes in the creek so with the next few inches, we might get it going again," he said.

"Another three inches would be good, but anything over the next two weeks would be great to keep the ground moist."
